Sunday, 12 June 2011 05:46
Held on 5 June at the International Media Production Zone (IMPZ), part of TECOM Investments Media Cluster; the awareness session for students was titled ‘Solar for Schools – Where art and environment becomes an inspiration’. The participating schools included Nibras International School, Gulf Model School, The Oxford School, The Gulf Indian High School and Our Own Indian High School.Demonstrating the significance of the environment and using artwork as a medium, the students presented creative ideas to preserve the environment in three different categories. Each category was directed to a specific age group of students. The first category involved ‘Natural Resources and water pollution’, whereas the second category addressed an older age of students in topics such as ‘waste management, recycling and air pollution’. The third category focused on ‘energy efficiency and climate change’.Aimed at educating the younger generation on climate change issues and the scarcity of energy across the world, the program also suggested a unique approach to replace formal methods of educating school students on renewable energy. On the other hand, it recommended use of traditional art to encourage adopting environment-friendly practices. A corporate environment responsibility (CER) program themed ‘Art and Environment’ highlighted responsible citizenship through education on waste management, recycling, energy efficiency, water pollution, climate change and preserving natural resources.Prabissh Thomas, Managing Director, PTL Solar, said: “Our CER program is established for emerging artists to contemplate on environmental issues and consider the natural context in which the artwork is being created. Our initiative functions as an accessible educational platform through engaging and participatory art activities. We encourage artworks that explore new methods and processes to create awareness.”As part of the event, all the students were encouraged to join Omeir Bin Malek, Campus Manager of International Media Production Zone, and plant saplings. They also pledged to defend the environment and save energy.Dr. Ayesha Abdullah, Managing Director of TECOM Investments’ Sciences Cluster, said: “We are delighted to host such a remarkable event, that raised the awareness of not only the younger generation but also served as an eye opener for many adults on the significance of saving energy, particularly in this region. It is a great occasion to create new opportunities and save energy, while working with business partners who strive to preserve the environment.”PTL Solar strongly displays its concern for the environment through a range of products that neutralize carbon emissions and reduce the impact on climate change. Some of its environment-friendly solutions include renewable energy for solar street light, billboard light, road, airport, marine, industrial (oil and gas, telecommunication), commercial, government, military, rural development, residential and customized applications.TECOM Investments and its entities adopt a proactive approach through various initiatives to inform and educate the community on green issues and contribute to reducing the region’s carbon footprint.
